On Friday 29 June Leigh Academies Trust once again hosted the PCA England Masters for a charity cricket match at Bexley Cricket Club. A fantastic charity lunch preceded the game with 400 guests enjoying a superb three course meal cooked by our own team of Cucina chefs. The guests were entertained by former England fast bowler Ed Giddins who hosted the lunch, and they were also lucky enough to hear some hilarious anecdotes from former England Chairman of Selectors, Geoff Miller. A silent auction, raffle and live auction also took place, with some incredible prizes and items available for purchase including a trip to the Monaco Grand Prix, a holiday in Barbados, a holiday in Las Vegas and countless items of signed sporting memorabilia.
The PCA Masters team this year featured some true greats of the game – Mark Ramprakash, Matthew Hoggard and Dominic Cork to name just a few. The 25 overs a side game commenced with The PCA Masters batting first and they wasted little time in rattling up a daunting score of 197-6. Deon Baillie from Longfield and Dan Stone from The Leigh Academy were the pick of the bowlers, with Dan picking up the prize wicket of Dominic Cork. The Leigh Academies Trust XI battled hard with several players reaching 20 or more with the bat but we ended up falling just 11 runs short on a total of 186-9 from our 25 overs. A really great day was had by players and spectators alike, and the 2019 event has already been pencilled in for Friday 05 July.
