Frequently asked questions

Applications

Can I submit my CV as an attached file?

You can submit a CV along with an application form if you wish.

What can I do if I’m not interested in any current listings, but still want to join one of the Trust’s academies?

You can register to join our Talent Pool  and let us contact you when a suitable role becomes vacant.

As part of our Talent Community we will let you know of any special events occurring within the Trust and if we will keep in touch to see how you are getting on from time to time.

Do I need to answer all the questions on the application?

Yes, please. A complete application form allows us to compare each candidate fairly. If there is a question you are unsure of then please contact the Talent Acquisition team for further advice.

What happens to my application once I’ve applied?

Once we receive your application it is reviewed by our Talent team and then your details are passed to the appropriate recruiting manager which in most cases is the Principal of the Academy you have applied for.

Once a closing date is reached we then contact candidates to notify them if they have been successful in reaching the interview stage.

I’m a newly qualified teacher. Can I apply for all teaching roles?

We welcome applications from other experienced and newly qualified teachers for all our teaching roles unless specified in the advert. We are proud of the many teachers who have joined the Trust as newly qualified teachers and have progressed into great teachers and key members of our leadership teams.

Working for a Multi-Academy Trust

I’m currently working in a Local Authority school. Why would I want to work for a Trust?

Moving to an Academy / Academy Trust has a number of advantages. The main one is that you get to work in a collaborative environment with other Academies that all have greater autonomy. The increased flexibility we have means that our Principals can direct funding in a way that best meets the needs of the students.

As a member of staff you also benefit from greater opportunities for professional development and promotion as we encourage movement between our academies to give you broader work experience.

I’m worried that working in an Academy will affect my terms and conditions and pension.

Like most Academies we have made a decision to pay our Teachers in line with the Standard Pay & Conditions Document and award increases in line with national levels. The only difference is that we give pay progression for teachers on the upper pay spine every year (for six years) rather than every two years.

Most of our terms and conditions relating to absence and leave are in line with national standards.

With regard to pensions, your pension is exactly the same with the Trust as it would be with a Local Authority.

Is Leigh Academies Trust just like the other Multi-Academy Trusts?

No, we are building a Trust that is very different to the way that others operate. Firstly we are not aiming to be the biggest or even to be a national organisation as we are simply focused on establishing three strategic clusters all within easy commute of each other in North West Kent, Central Kent and South East London. The advantage of this approach is that all of our academies can work together and share resources easily. It also means that our Trust support teams can provide the relevant HR, Finance and IT assistance necessary to help our academies run smoothly and efficiently.

What is the ultimate goal for the academies in the Trust?

Our overall goal is that all academies are rated as ‘outstanding’ and we have already achieved this in a number of our Academies. We also have a track record of turning round schools that are in need of improvement and having a significant impact on their operation and student outcomes.

However, we also recognise that our success is not just measured in our rating, it’s also about the impact we have on our students and the contribution we make to the community which is why our Trust vision is to shape lives and transform communities.
